This book claims that its never been more en Vogue to be budget-conscious in every aspect of life.....and what a perfect time for the book to debut....a recession where we all need to start thinking of budgeting and sqeezing the most style out of a small salary!
I am also including one of the Wet N'Wild shadesticks that I have been in love with lately and an eyeliner and brush in one by Elf Cosmetics
I will post the winner to my blog on March 27

I want to win!!!!
This is so nice of you! I feel that my spending has not been affected too much but that is probably because im not out in the real world working.
Hey you....
I'm so sorry for missing so many posts... but you're as fabulous as always :) Seriously, my research is killing me, very slowly.hehe. You're so lucky that you're graduating this year.
As for the contest, that is so sweet of you...I think that directly I haven't been influenced by recession except for reading and hearing about everywhere. But just the general panic of it is making me more responsible in terms of shopping, lol.Count me in for the book contest :)
I hope school is treating you well and hope you have a wonderful day.
P.S. In response to your comment regarding my hair, I must admit that although being a blonde was fun it has done a fair share of damage to my hair because of the highlights. I think that I might get honey highlights, but nothing that will require bleaching. Having wavy hair and dealing with frizz is enough, split ends is just too much,lol...I do think that blonde is totally your color, although you did look really pretty with brunette as well :)
I've been recycling (er.. thats the goal one of these weekends), to dig up all my old clothes that i still have in boxes and stuffed in the back of closets and make 'em new! (a cut here, a stitch and button there etc..) Im kinda excited!!!
The recession has impacted what i spend my money on. I only buy items that i know I'll be able to wear for a long time. I've also focused more on little things like jewelry that can make a huge difference to an otherwise dull or boring outfit!
The recession has indeed impacted my wardrobe. Since money has become tight I have been doing a lot more recycling. I have found such great finds in my closet like a cool camel colored beret I wore for my Bonnie costume when I and my friend went as Bonnie and Clyde for a costume party, wonderfully fitted jackets, and sweaters. I've also started to modify out of style clothes to make them more fashion forward. I had a ton of old broomstick skirts that I rolled up at the waist to become really cool high waisted circle minis. When it comes to parties I tend to buy vintage dresses that are really versatile and statement accessories. That way I can still wear the dress but with different accessories for a totally different look. I hope I win!

I've been learning how to sewn to make my own clothes. Also I bought a whole bunch of studs and I have been studding everything to give it an updated look. I stud shoes, top, tank tops, jeans. Basically I have been updating my clothes by DIY. I bleached some jeans the other day and cut them. anything to not spend money as as little as possible. i also have been dyeing old shirts that are faded to purple my new fave color.
Gorgeous giveaway.
The crisis hasn't really affected me but I am still very aware of it.
If I haven't worn an item of clothing for a while I sell it and then make space for new wonderful purchases.
hey
i need this book
i have always been a poor girl, so the crisis is not really changing much for me. Mostly I wear stuff like H&M, trying my best to style it as originally as possible. Also I buy a lot second hand.I live in Switzerland, where all is terribly expensive, even second hand shops sell absurdly overpriced items. In my home country (Bulgaria), which I visit 1-2 per year, I always do big shopping! There are awesome, temptingly cheap second hand shops, as in this country the word "vintage" is completely unknown :-). So instead of buying a pizza, for example, one can treat himself with a fine designer piece from the 70s or the 80s, and nobody seems to get an idea how valuable this is!
Receintly I started making some clothing myself too - see this post for example, the perfect crisis outfit in my opinion :-)

Thrifting is the key.
Really, vintage is not expensive, but, with the right flair, would get you looking sophisticated in no time =)

recession already affected all of us all over the world, but its not going to have huge impact on me, just because nothing cant hurt a girl like me who survived a war.
cheer from croatia.
I just got a job as a receptionist at a very busy downtown (tampa) salon and they said that our profession was "recession proof"... unfortunately, I don't believe them because people are trying any way to cut back on costs even if it's doing their own hair at home or waiting longer inbetween visits to the salons to get their touchups.
We're supposed to look trendy but professional and as a student, thats HARD! So instead, I asked for the "basics" for christmas and pair them with things I already have. It's hard to see all these new styles coming out but the best way to figure out your own style is to read blogs (mostly based on fashion) and use the girls/guys for inspiration to update and put a spin on what you already own!
it's really broadened my horizons and has made me more creative in the ways I put my outfits together. :]
Awww man. I have to think now, it's EARLY!
Well, I am not made of money but I do like my designer (or actually well-made and unusual) clothes so what I do is buy that stuff ON SALE (I avoid paying full price for expensive stuff) and make sure it's something I really love and will get wear out of. Then I pair it with Forever 21, Charlotte Russe, H&M pieces etc.
I've actually discovered a fantastic eBay store that has SWEET labels for less, I bought a Missoni dress for $99! That's crazy!
The recession hasn't affected me at all since I still have a job and make the same amount of money. I know I should be saving, and I am, but that's just for stuff like travel and the like, not because the economy makes me.
However, I will say that trying to sell stuff on eBay now is harder for me because people aren't buying as much anymore. So yeah - I guess you can say the recession is negatively affecting my eBay sales.
Which are here, btw: EBAY
Shameless promotion :) BUY MY STUFF!
Totally linking this post, btw! TWO BALLOTS! I WANT THAT BOOK :)
Ok enough yelling for Friday morning.
Have a good weekend!

Oh yeah - another thing I am going to do because I am saving for this month or two is SHOP MY CLOSET!
Seriously tonight am compiling all the looks I want for Spring and seeing what I can do with my own clothes to achieve it!
I've always been self- aware when making purchases- but now even more so. I've cut down on buying cheap "trendy" purchases simply because i do not need them. My hours are less so my pay has gone down a bit so i really need to be careful with my money and budget. I'm horrible at saving - but I'm trying my best! I've started selling old clothes to make money off it - and I've been doing quite well so far. I refuse to pay full price for expensive things - so I'm always on the lookout for a bargain!
I haven't been too affected by the recession as of yet, but I have always been on a small budget, as I'm a student. I try to limit my purchases to things I can imagine wearing in lots of different ways, rather than just those "one-time use" items
I've been cleaning out my overstuffed closet regularly and selling my things to secondhand stores. They price it and then give you 30% of that in cash, or 50% in store credit, but I usually take the credit so that I have "free money" for when I'm broke but really really need to shop. Also, my trick is to sell my stuff at chain secondhand stores (i.e. Crossroads and Buffalo Exchange in California). That way I sell my stuff at the "worse" locations (they're more likely to buy, and at a higher price, because they need good inventory), and then I use my credit to shop at the "better" locations. I got some purple Costume National t-strap platforms that way last time. :)
My mother saved all her clothing from the 1970's and dug up the clothes trunk recently. I ransacked pretty much everything as she was the same size as I am now...everything fits wonderfully! I don't feel weird for wearing old clothing... just give them a good wash and you're good to go!
Things in the 1970's were made with more care and quality control was stringent. Fabrics were more durable. I also think the cuts were more tailored and fitted.
Gotta love high waist trousers and pussy bow blouses!
lovely giveaway. just happened to come across your blog and adore it. YOU are adorable. i love this book, so i cannot add it to my budding library.we have been saving money like crazy. husband was laid off in Feb 2008, found work in Dec 2008. we are now paying off our credit cards, buying one thing a month for the new apartment, i am shopping my closet and hitting the nyc secondhand shops a bit more, i am only buying when things are marked 50%-70% off, finding great makeup deals at Dr, rite aid and skipping sephora for now. also, accessories from forever 21 or h&m can make an old outfit pop like it never did before. off to post about your giveaway...

above is the link back to your blog!
would you like my address now? hahah! i kid. happy saturday.
I love to shop at kohls because they always have clearance stuff no matter what and even just like 2 weeks after they were put into the store. I can get cute clothes, shoes, jewelery, etc and come out with bags of stuff not spending over 50 dollars. I absolutely love Kohls and they have kohl's cash which is wonderful!! Count me in :)
My friends and I frequently use clothing swaps or just borrow clothes from each other to double our wardrobe!
In the recession, I find sometimes it's best to buy clothes that are more versatile so you can get more wear out of them. Day/Night convertables are the best!
